Jets helped keep “Tush Push” legal...Will they take advantage?

Hello, Justin Fields.

In case you missed it, earlier this week the NFL had a vote to ban the “tush push.

Of the 32 teams in the NFL, 22 voted to ban it. However, the rule change requred 75% of teams (24 of 32) to vote for a ban. Thus the “tush push” remains legal in 2025.

The Jets were one of the ten teams to vote against the ban.

The Super Bowl Champion Eagles have used the “tush push” to turn short yardage situations into almost automatic conversions. Using the mobile 6’1” 223 pound Jalen Hurts, the play has turned into a big advantage for Philadelphia.

I’m not sure the reasons behind the Jets voting to save the “tush push,” but I find myself hoping there is some strategy behind it. As you know, the Jets plan to start the mobile Justin Fields at quarterback in 2025. Fields is bigger than Hurts at 6’3” 227 pounds. He would figure to be very effective at executing it.

To be honest, I personally would like to see the “tush push” outlawed. I just don’t find it to be terribly exciting. I’d rather see teams forced to execute in short yardage situations.

However, I’m a fan of the Jets’ vote if this is about strategy and turning Fields into a dominant short yardage player. A lot of teams complain about the Eagles’ usage of the play. But why complain? Why not just take advantage of the rules yourself?
