The New York Jets don’t seem ready to give up on former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields quite yet.

The New York Jets are entering Week 7 of the 2025 season as the only winless team in the league, and much of that has to do with the struggling play of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. However, the Jets don’t seem ready to give up on Fields quite yet.

In fact, head coach Aaron Glenn praised the former No. 11 overall pick in 2021.

“When you look at what Justin did, the games that he played,” Glenn told reporters. “Listen, I didn’t think he was bad at all. I actually thought he did some pretty good things in those four games. In this fifth game, he took a step back. I’m with you guys 100 percent. And we can’t have that. And we have to get better than that. And he knows that. Ann he knows that better than anyone. So I don’t think you try to bench a player after having one true bad game. Because I thought the other games he played fairly well.”

Fields struggled in New York’s latest loss to the Denver Broncos. On Sunday, he had just nine completions and was sacked nine times while throwing for 45 yards.

That hasn’t been the case all season, though. In five games, Fields has thrown for 799 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also has 235 yards and three more scores on the ground.

However, if the Jets’ losing streak continues, they may be forced to make a change at the position, and they have a capable backup in veteran Tyrod Taylor.

Glenn isn’t even ready to entertain that idea yet, though.

“Well, I think that’s always an issue, because now you start to bring in the dynamic of, man the quarterback is always thinking, ‘Am I going to get pulled if things are not going right?’ ” Glenn said. “And, again, just like I said before, I think there were a number of things that go into that.”

Only time will tell if New York will turn things around, but it’s been a less than ideal start for Fields on his new team.

A native of Kennesaw, Georgia, Fields has thrown for 8,579 yards, 49 touchdowns and 31 interceptions in his professional career.
