The New York Jets are fresh off an NFL Draft that featured three selections in the first round. That has the fanbase excited for the young talent coming to East Rutherford this fall. But one former New York second-round pick just locked himself into that young core. The Jets have signed guard Joe Tippmann to a four-year contract extension.

“The Jets and standout G Joe Tippmann have [agreed] to terms on a big, new 4-year extension, sources say. One of the game’s top young guards gets paid, as the Jets are set to lock up another core player,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.
Tippmann was taken in the second round out of Wisconsin in the 2023 NFL Draft. He appeared in 16 games as a rookie, playing both center and guard. Tippman has moved between the two positions throughout his career, but will now be paid like a starting center in the league.
The Jets were a disaster in 2025, but their offensive line was very good. Tippmann was the anchor for the only offensive line that featured five players to play 17 games last year. With first-rounders at both tackle positions, the Jets are set up for a strong future up front. They do not have a quarterback of the future to protect yet, but they have a good infrastructure set.
Tippmann is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so he is tied to the Jets for the next five years. Will he be the next great homegrown Jets offensive lineman?
