Reports came out on Wednesday that Jets right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker had suffered a substantial injury later revealed to be a season-ending torn triceps.
The team has now offered official confirmation.
It’s a devastating break for Vera-Tucker, a third major season-ending injury in the last four years. Vera-Tucker’s rookie contract will expire with him having played just 43 of a possible 85 games. He is set to be a free agent after the season, and it is possible this latest injury could have a major impact on his earning power.
In the short run, this is also a major injury for the Jets to deal with. The team is now down a starter on the offensive line before the season even has begun. It is likely we will see a position change up front with Joe Tippmann sliding to Vera-Tucker’s right guard spot. Tippmann did start four games at right guard as a rookie in 2023 so it won’t be completely new territory for him. Josh Myers will presumably take over as starting center. Myers has three years of starting experience in the NFL from his days with the Packers. He also played with Justin Fields in college at Ohio State.
