New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad season got a little worse on during Wednesday’s media session. Glenn expressed his disappointment in the media, again, after a reporter asked a very understandable question about the team’s current starting quarterback Justin Fields.
Aaron Glenn is 0-6 so far in his first year leading the New York Jets, having been outscored 123 to 170. Justin Fields is averaging a meager 159.8 yards passing per game and has thrown for just four touchdowns, plus three more rushing, in his five starts.
The team is also coming off a game in which they produced minus-10 net passing yards. So a question about possibly going with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback at some point seems pretty reasonable. Not to Aaron Glenn though.
When asked about possibly making a switch following their most recent loss, Glenn responded, “What kind of question is that? There are guys that have bad games. That doesn’t mean you just bench them. Come on, you know better than that.”
On Wednesday, Glenn was once again asked questions about Justin Fields, and he still appeared to be very prickly about the situation.
“You said after the game you’d like to see [Justin Fields] give guys a chance,” a reporter brought up to Glenn. “Do you think he maybe needs to take a few more chances in terms of it’s not wide open let’s try a 50/50 ball? Let’s try to give Garrett [Wilson] a chance?”
“Yeah, here’s what I do know and you’re right, I’ve said that and I still believe that and I think that’s for any quarterback especially when you have man coverage to give a guy a chance,” Glenn replied. “But I do know if something bad happens, you guys going to be b——- about that, about him.”
The Jets take on a very beatable Carolina Panthers team in Week 7. How Justin Fields does will play a large part in determining which direction Aaron Glenn will go at quarterback the rest of the season. Or maybe it won’t. Who knows?
