The New York Jets continue to trash talk the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of their Week 1 matchup this season.
There is certainly not a lack of storylines for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets, and now yet another player has added one.
Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner claims he knows how to fluster Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf.
“Me and DK don’t even talk,” Gardner said on Up & Adams. “When he gets mad about something, he wants to block you hella hard. That’s his thing. I feel like I can get to him, but that’s how he takes his anger out.”
Metcalf has had a tendency to draw some penalties throughout his NFL career. With Gardner looking to do just that to begin the season, Metcalf will have to be extra aware.
However, Gardner will also have to be aware of the athlete Metcalf is. The 6-foot-4, 229-pound wide receiver has never had less than 900 receiving yards and five touchdowns in a season.
Gardner doesn’t lack any respect for the Steelers’ new weapon, though.
“If he gets mad, he wants to go block somebody hella hard, or when he got the ball, he wants to try to run somebody over,” he said. “I respect that.”
Only time will tell who will get the better of the other in the matchup, but that is just one of many headlines entering the game.
The most notable is, of course, quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields facing their former teams. Jets pass rusher Will McDonald IV also had some words for Rodgers with the countdown on.
Metcalf has recorded 438 catches for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns in his six-year NFL career.
