Defensive end Jermaine Johnson has come off the physically unable to perform list.
Johnson began training camp on the PUP list as he recovered from a torn Achilles tendon suffered in last seasonβs Week 2 win over the Titans. During the offseason program, head coach Aaron Glenn indicated that Johnson would likely be ready to play at some point after the start of training camp.
With Week 1 around a month away, Johnson should be ready to go for the start of the regular season. The Jets might want to take it slow with him as he works his way back into football shape. It would not be a huge surprise if he sat out the final two regular season games. The Jets could also opt to keep him on a pitch count early in the season just to play it safe.
Johnson is an important part of the defensive line. The Jets no longer have great depth at the spot the way they did two years ago. As the most complete defensive end on the team, the only one with a proven capability to play the run and the pass effectively, this team needs Jermaine in the lineup.
