It sure looked like Jerry Jones was trying to send a message to someone in the stands when he was filmed flipping the middle finger during Sunday’s showdown between the Jets and the Cowboys. However, he claimed that was not the case while offering an unconvincing explanation for that obscene gesture.

It’s hard to truly feel bad for anyone who owns an NFL team when you consider virtually every single person with a majority stake in a franchise is a billionaire. With that said, having more money than you’ll ever know what to do with doesn’t make you immune to the pressure and stressors that accompany that particular line of work.

Most owners opt to watch games in a luxury box that allows them to insulate themselves from The Poors. However, that only does so much to protect them from having abuse thrown their way from fans, whether we’re talking about those who are less than thrilled with the state of the franchise they own or those who want to chirp while rooting for the team they’re playing against.

In 2024, Panthers owner David Tepper was hit with a $300,000 fine for throwing a drink at a Jaguars fan who taunted him while he was watching a game in his suite, and it seemed like there was a chance Jerry Jones could also face some repercussions for making an obscene gesture when the Cowboys played the Jets.

However, he’s insisting he didn’t actually intend to deploy it.

The Cowboys were responsible for the Jets dropping to 0-5 on the season after Dallas earned a 37-22 victory on the road during a game where Jerry Jones was in attendance at MetLife Stadium.

It appeared the man with an estimated net worth of over $20 billion decided to taunt some fans of the home team after Dak Prescott threw his fourth touchdown pass of the day by briefly flashing a middle finger that was sandwiched between a thumbs up and a pointing gesture.

Jones got the chance to address that viral moment during his weekly conversation with 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, and he asserted he hadn’t actually intended to throw up that finger in the moment.

He offered a somewhat dubious explanation, saying:

“That was unfortunate. That was kind of an exchange with our fans out in front of us. There was a swarm of Cowboys fans out in front — not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with enthusiasm of Cowboys and certainly late in the game.

**It was inadvertent on my part because that was right after we made our last touchdown and we were all excited about it. There...
