Back in September, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones fired his latest salvo in an attempt to try and keep an assault lawsuit out of the courts. Unfortunately for him, the lawsuit, which was filed by a woman from South Carolina in 2020, was allowed to continue by the Supreme Court of Texas.
The case was actually dismissed in 2022, but an appeal allowed it to continue. As a result of the ruling by the Supreme Court of Texas, Jerry Jones was supposed to have a jury trial on March 3 to hear the case. That now isn’t happening.
On Tuesday, the Dallas Morning News reported that Jerry Jones’ jury trial for the civil lawsuit has now been pushed back to Aug. 11, 2025. This is the second time that the trial has been postponed as the initial court date had been set for March 18, 2024.
In a hearing last week, Dallas County District Court Judge Aiesha Redmond allowed Jones’ legal team to push the trial date back again because of an affidavit the Cowboys owner filed in which he claimed that if deposed, he would testify that he does not recall meeting the woman.
In the lawsuit, the woman claims Jerry Jones forcibly kissed her on the mouth without her consent on or about September 16, 2018 in the Tom Landry Room at AT&T Stadium. She also claims that he stuck his tongue in her mouth, and forcibly grabbed and groped her and that there were several witnesses to the assault including former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, players Ezekiel Elliott, Tyrone Crawford, Tyron Smith and DeMarcus Lawrence, and Eugenia Jones, Jerry Jones’ wife.
The woman’s attorney Thomas Bowers complained to the judge about the pattern of delays, saying his client was, and has been, ready to begin the trial. She is reportedly seeking over one million dollars in damages for severe emotional distress, psychological pain and suffering, and severe injuries.
In July of 2024, Jerry Jones successfully agreed to a settlement in a paternity lawsuit filed by a woman named Alexandra Davis, who claimed to be his biological daughter, thus avoiding having to go to trial in that case.
