Johnson only played two games in 2024 due to an Achilles injury.
The Jets lost defensive end Jermaine Johnson to a torn Achilles in a Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans in 2024. Johnson missed the rest of the season.
Head coach Aaron Glenn provided an update on Johnson’s recovery when speaking to the media during Jets minicamp.
The PUP (physically unable to perform) list contains players who are not healthy enough to practice at the start of training camp. Players rehabbing from injuries frequently start camp on the list. This tends to generate a lot of attention.
Glenn seems to be setting expectations here. Johnson could be on the list as training camp commences next month, but that is no reason for worry. The Jets will start training camp approximately a month and a half before the start of the regular season. Johnson will have plenty of time to get himself into game condition by then.
The next question is whether the Jets might keep Johnson on a metaphorical pitch count early in the season to try and ease him back into the lineup. The team might want to play it cautious. On the other hand, the Jets aren’t currently blessed with a ton of depth at defensive end. They need Johnson’s contributions.
