Jemele Hill has changed her tune after initially criticizing a reporter who has been talked about since her viral interaction with an NFL head coach.
The reporter in question, Lynn Jones, used her slot to encourage Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen following the team’s playoff loss on Sunday.
“I’m going to tell you, congratulations on your success, young man,” she told him. “You hold your head up. You guys have had a most magnificent season. You did a great job out there today. You just hold your head up, OK? Ladies and gentlemen, Duval. You keep it going. We got another season.”
While Jones’ comment was described as heartwarming, she has been slammed for unprofessionalism by many people in the media.
Hill was one of them, at least for a day…
**“That can’t be a reporter. Cause if so, I would not have used the term awesome,” she wrote in response to Adam Schefter.
Hill has since changed her mind and is now urging folks to subscribe to the Jacksonville Free Press, where Lynn is employed.
“What I would say to my fellow media members — and to the general public — is that if we’re going to have this much discourse about @JacksonvilleFP reporter Lynn Jones, the very least we could do is follow her publication on social media and subscribe,” she wrote.
Hill also revealed having subscribed herself.
“Many of us have been local reporters and we know how challenging it is now for local papers to cover the news,” she wrote. “So subscribe + follow as I just did https://jacksonvillefreepress.com.”
The former ESPN host also admitted to being wrong. She added that she is unlike many people who struggle to show accountability when they don’t get it right.
“Unlike a lot of people, I actually don’t have a problem saying I’m wrong or admitting I didn’t read the room right. If y’all like it, I love it,” she wrote in response to a comment. “If this brings more attention to the newspaper, and to her work, that’s a win. Which is why I subscribed. Maybe you should too.”
Meanwhile, Jones has doubled down in the face of criticism. She pointed to her two-and-a-half decades of experience as she hit back at her detractors.
She’s changed at least one person’s mind.
