Previous reporting suggested that it was Stoutland’s idea to make the transition, spurred first by Landon Dickerson’s excused minicamp absence and then an injury to Tyler Steen during training camp. Steen did end up playing 316 snaps this year as a backup, second to only Fred Johnson among the offensive line second stringers.
Stoutland has been the Eagles’ best position coach for years, and might even be the best position coach in the NFL. But now Stoutland credits Sirianni for getting the Becton ball rolling, and that’s something we can use to combat the idea that the head coach doesn’t actually do anything for this team.
Notable as well is the fact that Becton might not even be a top-5 Howie Roseman offseason addition. He added Saquon Barkley and Zack Baun in free agency, so that’s easily one and two. Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the draft would probably be three and four. Then, at number five, I’d say bringing back CJGJ goes in that slot, so for me Becton is probably the sixth-best addition. Agree? Disagree?
