The Patriots and Commanders collided Wednesday for a joint practice in Foxboro, Mass., but, for a moment, all eyes were on someone who doesn’t play for either team.

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum was spotted walking on the field as New England and Washington prepared for the training camp session. A video, shared by Patriots public-relations staffer Alexandra Francisco, shows Tatum wearing a brace to support his surgically repaired left Achilles.

Take a look:

Tatum obviously wasn’t running around, but he didn’t appear to show a noticeable limp, either. The apparently positive update jives with recent reports of Tatum’s rehab going well and potentially priming the 27-year-old for a return sometime next season.

As for the Patriots and Commanders, they’ll take Thursday off before meeting Friday night at Gillette Stadium for their respective preseason openers. As of this writing, it wasn’t clear whether quarterbacks Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels would play in the game.

New England head coach Mike Vrabel didn’t tip his hand either way when asked about plans for the preseason contest.

“Most everyone that’s healthy should expect to play in the game,” Vrabel said before Wednesday’s practice, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “How long they’ll play, I don’t know.”
