The New England Patriots picked up a 27-14 victory over the New York Jets in Week 11, with rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson scoring all three of the team’s touchdowns. Before his final one, safety Jaylinn Hawkins sent a quick message that accurately summed up the state of the game.
In his third game as the team’s de facto No. 1 running back, Henderson starred once again for the Patriots. On the ground, he racked up 62 yards and two scores on 19 carries, and as a receiver, he caught five passes for 31 yards and another touchdown.
With New England driving down the field before Henderson’s final touchdown, it felt like the team was in position to put the game to rest. That’s precisely the message Hawkins sent right before Henderson hauled in a six-yard pass from Drake Maye in the end zone.
“Now let’s put it to sleep,” Hawkins said. “We score, we put it to sleep.”
While Hawkins’ claim ended up being accurate, the Jets did manage to hang around and keep things somewhat interesting. Justin Fields responded by leading the team down the field on a touchdown drive, but that would be the last time New York scored in this game.
Winning on a short week is always tough, and at the end of the day, New England did what it needed to in order to earn its eighth-straight victory. The Pats will be back in action in Week 12, where a matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals awaits.
