The Kansas City Chiefs did not get out of their opening game of the preseason against the Arizona Cardinals unscathed.
In the first quarter, cornerback Jaylen Watson was pulled off the field and placed in the concussion protocol. Shortly after, the Chiefs announced he would be out for the remainder of the game.
Watson will now enter the concussion protocol, requiring him to follow a five-step process before being cleared to fully practice or participate in an NFL game. With Kristian Fulton still working his way back to practice as he recovers from offseason knee surgery, the team is now down two of its top cornerbacks.
In the second quarter, safety Deon Bush appeared to go down with a non-contact knee injury. Bush left the field on a cart, and Kansas City ruled him out, listing an Achilles injury. The early indication is that it’s a worst-case scenario for Bush, who is likely to miss the rest of the season.
