The Boston Celtics picked up a hard-fought 123-117 victory over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, and per usual, superstar forward Jaylen Brown was leading the charge for the C’s, as he poured in 42 points to help lead his team to its 12th win of the season.

With Jayson Tatum sidelined as he continues to recover from a torn Achilles tendon, Brown has stepped up and taken on a bigger role on offense for the Celtics. The results have been great to this point, as Brown is averaging 29 points, six rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 49.9% from the field.

We always knew that Brown was a great player, but he has taken things to another level this season. And if he can keep scoring at his current level, he could end up rewriting the Celtics’ record books, as he’s currently on pace to average the third most points per game in a single season of the franchise’s storied history.

Right now, the two players currently sitting above Brown are his longtime teammate, Tatum, who averaged 30.1 points per game in the 2022-23 season, and the legendary Larry Bird, who averaged 29.9 points per game in the 1987-88 campaign.

Of course, it’s worth noting that there’s still a lot of basketball left to be played this season. With there being an outside shot that Tatum returns later in the season, that could lead to Brown’s scoring numbers taking a hit down the stretch.

For the time being, though, Brown is continually proving himself to be one of the most efficient three-level scorers in the league. He will look to lead the Celtics to another victory when they take on the lowly Washington Wizards on Thursday night.
