Roc Nation made Jerry Jones look even worse amid his ongoing contract dispute involving Micah Parsons, and now, Dez Bryant and Jay-Z. The 82-year-old owner of the Dallas Cowboys continues to put his foot in his mouth as fans and players grow increasingly frustrated with his shenanigans.
This latest conflict seems far from resolution.
One of the most prominent sports agencies in the world is actively laughing in the face of Jones for lying. It even brought receipts!
Before we get into the minutiae, I must first establish the necessary background to this back-and-forth.
The entire thing stems from Parsons. One of the best defensive players in the NFL wants to get paid like one of the best defensive players in the NFL.
His financial demands are in direct contradiction to his past complaints about the NIL era of college football but that is neither here nor there. Parsons is playing on the final year of his rookie contract with the Cowboys. Dallas, meaning Jones, refuses to sign him to a new deal.
As a result, the 26-year-old defensive end recently requested a trade.
Jones spent 16 minutes talking about Parsons at training camp. He thinks the trade request is “just part of negotiation,” which may or may not be true.
Part of the formal trade request focused on the actual negotiation process and how it has been mishandled by the Cowboys and the Jones family. It has not involved an agent.
“I no longer want to be held to closed door negotiations without my agent present,” Parsons wrote.
When asked about this specific piece of the equation, Jones blamed the past for the present. He will not speak with Parsons’ agent because of a previous experience involving wide receiver Dez Bryant.
“Because when we have a problem with the player, the agent is nowhere to be found,” said Jerry Jones. “Jay-Z said that Dez would make all meetings. Jay-Z and I negotiated the contract, spent hours. He said, ‘Anybody in my organization is on time.’ He said, ‘My office used to be on the street corner, and I’ve always been early. So, they will be on time.’ And what did I say? I said, ‘I’m going to call you [when I have a problem].’ He quit taking my call.”
Bryant issued a very stern warning in response to his former employer’s statement.
“JERRY JONES I DONT THINK ITS SMART TO MENTION MY NAME. I KEPT QUIET ABOUT A LOT OF UNFAIR S—.. ON SOME G S—… WE CAN HAVE STORY TIME IF THATS WHAT WE ARE DOING,” he wrote on X.
The implication seems to be that Bryant has dirt on Jones. Wouldn’t that be juicy?!
Jerry Jones mentioned Jay-Z by name. Jay-Z founded Roc Nation Sports, a sports agency, in early 2013 in partnership with Creative Artists Agency.
