ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Jaxson Dart showed the New York Giants everything they hoped to see from the rookie quarterback on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills. Dart, the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, looked every bit like the team’s quarterback of the future.
The 22-year-old threw the ball well, highlighted by a 28-yard touchdown strike to Lil’Jordan Humphrey for his first touchdown pass as a Giant. He finished his day 19 of 19 for 154 yards with a touchdown and a 106.0 passer rating.
Dart ran the ball well, picking up 24 yards on three rushes. The highlight was a 19-yard scramble.
Dart showed poise against the rush. On a second-and 3 from the Giants’ 36-yard line Dart was rushed quickly. He managed get a pass to tight end Greg Dulcich nonetheless. The play resulted in no gain, but no gain is better than losing six or seven yards or creating a disaster by turning the ball over.
Dart showed awareness and touch. On a third-and-12 from the Giants’ 16-yard line, Mike Kafka dialed up a screen to Miller. Under pressure and with defenders in-between him and his target, Dart, used great touch to loft the ball to Miller, who went 13 yards for a drive-starting first down that ended in one of Graham Gano’s three field goals of 50 yards or more.
In four drives, Dart led the Giants to 13 points — a touchdown and two field goals.
“He’s a confident young player,” said head coach Brian Daboll.
Let’s go through each of Dart’s four drives.
Dart entered the game with with 6:14 left in the first quarter and the ball at the Giants’ 17-yard line.
Dart’s first play was a 9-yard completion on the left sideline to Zach Pascal. That drive also included Dart sidestepping the rush and getting the ball to Dulcich, a play I mentioned earlier. He went 3 of for 14 yards, but the Giants punted.
They scored on each of Dart’s remaining drives
Dart’s second drive ended with his 28-yard strike to Lil’Jordan Humphrey for the first NFL touchdown throw of his career.
“I like my matchup one-on-one and he was able to win over the top and made a great play,” Dart said.
Maybe the most impressive part of the throw was that Buffalo pass rusher T.J. Sanders was bearing down on him as he let the ball go.
“I’m comfortable sitting in there when the pressure gets on me,” Dart said. “I knew the opportunity we were going to have … those are some of the biggest plays in the games.
“I think it was T.J. Sanders who hit me. I’ve been hit by him a few times in college. It’s kinda funny how it came full circle.”
Dart said he didn’t see the catch. he “just kinda blacked out” and went to celebrate.
Daboll said Dart was “effective, aggressive, confident in the pocket.”
