Jaxson Dart is preparing for his rookie season after being selected by the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft. The former Ole Miss passer impressed coach Brian Daboll enough in the interview process to make him to trade up and land his guy.
Dart was heard speaking on those pre-draft talks in a recent sit down with Sports Illustrated. He recalls it being intense.
Daboll’s quarterback evaluation has been a talking point dating back to last season. Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and JJ McCarthy were amongst the first players taken in the ’24 Draft. Each spoke with the Giants beforehand.
HBO’s Hard Knocks series took viewers inside the meetings as Daboll tested each signal caller’s football knowledge. There was a lot of information to take in.

Jaxson Dart was asked to go through those same tests this offseason with the Giants in search of a quarterback. He passed with flying colors!
Video of that interaction was released earlier this month. He impressed the coaching staff with his football IQ.

Dart’s smarts made an impact on Daboll. It pushed him to move up in the draft to take the passer at N0. 25.
New York was pumped to land their quarterback of the future. He’ll now learn behind Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston before grabbing the keys to the offense.
“I think he’s got a lot of good qualities you look for in a quarterback,” the coach said after the draft. “He’s tough, he makes good decisions with the football, he pushes the ball down the field, has athletic ability.
“He played in a really tough conference… and did a really good job throughout this process through our meetings, board work, workouts, and the tape that we liked. I look forward to working with him. Glad he’s here.”

“You better be prepared going into a Brian Daboll meeting,” he said while reflecting. “It’s intense. He definitely wants to get the most out of you. If you’re not prepared, don’t step into the meeting because you’re going to get grilled.”
Dart passed his test with the New York Giants. Shedeur Sanders reportedly failed.
