Will Travis Kelce return to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2025 NFL season? Or will he instead opt for retirement after one of the best careers we’ll ever see at the tight end position? That is the question facing the Kansas City legend as the NFL offseason rolls on. And it’s one that reportedly comes with a hard deadline from the Chiefs organization.
But according Jason Kelce, the decision has already been made. The elder Kelce brother sat down with Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley on The Steam Room podcast recently and discussed a bevy of topics, including whether or not his brother will continue to play in the NFL.
“I think Travis — I think he probably, in his heart, already knows what he wants to do,” Kelce told Johnson and Barkley “We’re very similar people, but we also have different ways of thinking about things. Sometimes I can overanalyze situations, and any big decision I’m having in my life I’ll think about the negatives and what about this or that.
“My brother has this way of being like, ‘Hey man, you want to play or you don’t want to play.'”
The 35-year-old caught 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns this past season. But he began to show signs of slowing down and caught just four passes for 39 yards in Kansas City’s 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
“I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year, and right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m not making any crazy decisions,” Travis Kelce said on the New Heights podcast following the Super Bowl loss.
He has one year and $17.2 million left on his contract with Kansas City, which is good enough reason to return for most players. But Travis, like his brother, likely has several lucrative options on the table following his playing days. Couple that with the fact he’s currently dating a billionaire in Taylor Swift and the decision becomes a lot less straightforward than it may seem.
