Jason Kelce has loved watching a former teammate blossom with the New England Patriots this season.
Milton Williams has justified New England’s $104 million offseason investment by anchoring a ferocious rushing defense. The defensive tackle, who won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last year, helped the Patriots advance to the second round with two sacks in a 16-3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Kelce praised Williams during ESPN’s pre-game coverage of Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Houston Texans.
“He’s like a pitbull,” Kelce said. “He’s sawed off but strong as an ox and quick as flash.”
Kelce played alongside Williams from 2021 to 2023, but the former All-Pro center believes Williams has since made significant strides.
“It’s been a pleasure watching him mature as a player,” Kelce said. “When he first came in, he was like a flash-in-the-pan type guy. He’d come in and he’d shoot a gap. He’d make a big play as a sub-rotational guy, and he’s really flourished into an every-down player.
“He can play physical at the point of attack. He picks and chooses those spots to take his chances in a much more intelligent way … He’s really had a tremendous year for the Patriots, and I enjoy watching him play.”
Williams put on a show for Kelce and all other viewers when the Patriots limited the Texans to eight rushing yards in the first half. New England leads 21-13 in the third quarter with an AFC Championship Game appearance against the Denver Broncos at stake.
