Famously cartoonish quarterback Jameis Winston signed a contract with the New York Giants earlier in the offseason, bringing him to a section of the country he’s never lived in before: New Jersey. Needless to say, Jameis in New Jersey is already producing hysterics.
In an effort to ingratiate himself to New Jerseysans, Jameis Winston posted a video on TikTok of him spending at day at the Jersey Shore — visiting delis, going fishing, etc. In the video, however, Winston — in classic Winston form — seems to blurt of the famed New Jersey Italian phrase “gabagool” at every opportunity.
Popularized by James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano in The Sopranos, gabagool is the Italian-American pronunciation of the cured deli meat “capicola.”
Now officially a New Jerseysan after signing a two-year, $8 million deal with Big Blue in the offseason, Winston thought it’d be a good idea to take the phrase out for an extensive test drive.

Now 31 years old, Winston finds himself in a New York Giants quarterback room that also includes veteran Russell Wilson and rookie Jaxson Dart, suggesting there could be a three-way-race for the starting QB at training camp this summer.
Last season with the Cleveland Browns, Winston played in 12 games — his most since his final season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. In those 12 games, he completed 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The Giants are now the fourth team Winston has played for, having previously played for the Tampa Bay Bucs, New Orleans Saints, and Cleveland Browns.
Unfortunately for the Giants, they find themselves in the same division as the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and the up-and-coming, Jayden Daniels-led Washington Commanders, meaning if they are going to qualify for the playoffs, it’d not only be via the Wild Card but it’d also be something of a minor miracle, as bookies have the G-Men projected to finish last in the NFC East.
