The Cincinnati Bengals got a first look at a key rookie starter on Thursday night, when rookie linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. got his first NFL action against the Philadelphia Eagles. A nice feature on him at halftime got fans more introduced to his story, but his impact on the field has been felt by his teammates all season.
When mic’d up at a training camp practice, Orlando Brown Jr. was talking to Ja’Marr Chase, and they were raving over what they were seeing out of Knight in camp.
“D. Knight, bro,” Chase told Brown. “He just in them spots. He’s in good spots every time.”
That came during a practice when Knight made a nice play on a pass intended for Chase, so the Bengals’ star receiver got a firsthand look at Knight’s knack for being in the right position.
“Nah he knows ball,” Brown replied to Chase. “He studies a lot of tape. He’ll do a great job.”
Knight was a second-round pick and started taking reps with the first team defense immediately. With the departure of Germaine Pratt, Knight slid into his role alongside Logan Wilson in Al Golden’s new-look defense. Golden was heavily involved in selecting Knight, and it appears he’s getting exactly what he was expecting out of him.
Chase and Brown have worked their way to the highest level of their professio,n and the glowing endorsement of the rookie can only bode well for what we can expect to see out of No. 44 going forward.
