Ja’Lynn Polk’s sophmore season has reportedly come to an end.
After re-injuring the same shoulder that required offseason surgery in the New England Patriots preseason opener, Polk is set to undergo another surgery that will sideline him for the entire 2025-26 season, as first reported by NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.
Polk originally injured his right shoulder in Week 17 of last season in an attempt to make a diving catch. The offseason surgery led to the wide receiver spending the spring limited before missing the first week of training camp.
Returning to the practice fields for just over a week, an end-around in New England’s first preseason game ended with Polk landing awkwardly on the same shoulder and exiting the game. He has not practiced since.
Drafted in the second-round (37th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft, Polk’s rookie year looked to get off to a promising start in training camp but quickly stalled in the regular season. Appearing in 15 games, he posted just 12 catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns throughout his rookie season.
With one preseason game remaining, New England’s wide receiver depth chart continues to be led by Stefon Diggs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte and Kyle Williams, while undrafted rookie Efton Chism III has appeared to play himself onto the roster.
The Patriots will then have decisions to make regarding Kendrick Bourne and Javon Baker, another member of New England’s 2024 draft class.
