The Miami Dolphins are looking to trade cornerback Jalen Ramsey. ESPN’s Adam Schefter thinks either LA team could be in play.
The Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey have been working toward a divorce for the last several months, with the veteran looking to move on from the team despite having signed a contract extension eight months ago. Any trade was expected to occur shortly after the start of June, allowing the Dolphins to shift around the salary cap ramifications of trading the seven-time Pro Bowl player, but as we move into late June, no trade has materialized.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Friday, and indicated a trade is still expected to be completed.
“The Dolphins continue to have conversations about trading Jalen Ramsey, and I think a trade there will get done. The question there is when does it get done? Does it get done next week? The week after? Prior to the start of training camp? I don’t know exactly when it is going to be, but Jalen Ramsey will get traded, and I would expect it will be before the start of training camp.”
Ramsey joined the Dolphins in 2023 as an offseason trade from the Los Angeles Rams, sending LA a 2023 third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter Long in the deal. In his two seasons with Miami, he has started 27 games, recording 82 tackles, one sack, 16 passes defensed, and five interceptions. He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2023 season, despite only playing 10 games that year due to a knee injury.
Schefter indicated a return to Los Angeles could be in the cards for Ramsey, though he did indicate it could be either the Rams or the Los Angeles Chargers who make the deal. “We will see how it shakes out, where he goes. I think he would like to go to the west coast, to Los Angeles, Rams, Chargers, somewhere like that. And we will see how that happens.”
The Rams have been semi-open about their pursuit of a Ramsey reunion. If Ramsey’s desire to land in Los Angeles is his primary goal, the Chargers could come into play. There have been rumors about the Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers also being in play for Ramsey, though the Raiders rumor seems to have been nothing more than that and the Steelers would defeat the goal of being out west if that is Ramsey’s desire.
The Dolphins announced their 2025 training camp schedule this week, opening with their first practice on July 26. If a trade is to happen before camp begins, about five weeks are remaining for a deal to be finalized. When, where, and how the deal shakes out continues to be a discussion point around the league, but nothing more than rumors and speculation at this point.
