Jalen Ramsey was seen being worked through the entire Steelers secondary in the first public practice of the 2025 training camp.
UNITY TWP, Pa. – Jalen Ramsey told reporters as the Pittsburgh Steelers arrived at training camp that he was ready to make an impact. While his role was uncertain early, it appeared Thursday that it will be clearer soon. Ramsey was used in multiple spots on the first day of practice.

Ramsey was acquired in a trade in June in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick. He is stepping into Fitzpatrick’s role–and more–already.
Ramsey told reporters on Wednesday that he just wants to play football. That’s exactly what he did on Thursday during team sessions.
According to reports, Ramsey spent time at safety, slot corner, and outside corner. Most notably, Steelers Now reported he is the starting safety in the base defense. He was also the slot corner in the nickel package.
Juan Thornhill served as the free safety when Ramsey was in at corner in other packages, according to multiple reports. It’s also significant that Sebastian Castro served as the second-team free safety.
Castro has an opportunity to fill a void at safety behind Thornhill, Ramsey, and Deshon Elliott. It’s still early in camp; however, things are beginning to unfold as the days roll by.
The Steelers will have 12 more public practices before their first preseason game in Jacksonville on August 9. Until then, fans and media will likely see more experimenting with Ramsey throughout camp.
