Jalen Hurts has shared his feelings on Philadelphia Eagles teammate A.J. Brown following their exit from the playoffs.
The Eagles, last year’s Super Bowl champions, lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round on Sunday.
A Super Bowl appearance followed by a first-round exit seems to be a recurring theme in Philly now. However, this time around, Brown is the one dominating the conversation.
The star wide receiver had a poor game on Sunday, making very costly drops. He was also seen having an intense spat with head coach Nick Sirianni on the sideline.
Brown was not in the Eagles locker room when players came to clean out on Monday. He didn’t show up to discuss his status, having snubbed the media the night before.
Hurts, of course, was around. And, sure enough, he was asked whether he wants Brown back next season.
“A.J. and I have talked,” he said. “We’re in a great place.”
He paused before suggesting, “Maybe y’all can talk to him and ask.”
Brown is one of the bigger-name players expected to be traded in the offseason. Should that be the case, it wouldn’t have anything to do with his contract.
The wide receiver had been a distraction for much of the season, and at times, it didn’t appear he wanted to be in Philadelphia.
He implied as much during interviews and on social media, while he also seemed to lack the effort fans were used to seeing on the field.
Hurts also suggested that he will have some involvement in the decision.
“My line is always open,” Hurts said. “However involved or whatever level of inquiry I am, I’ll definitely be involved. Ultimately, I put my focus on controlling the things I can.”
Of course, general manager Howie Roseman will have the final say. But Hurts is the franchise quarterback and is expected to be involved in personnel matters, especially given what he’s achieved.
