Well deserved:
JALEN HURTS IS SUPER BOWL LIX MVP! #SBLIX pic.twitter.com/48Kkvaoy3L
— NFL (@NFL) February 10, 2025
Final stats: 17 for 22, 221 yards, two touchdowns, one pick. 11 carries for 72 yards and a tush push score. He was cool and calm throughout and really only made one bad throw the entire night. He moved the sticks with his feet and made some key runs to chew clock in the third quarter. Outside of maybe Josh Sweat, there was no other choice for MVP, and Hurts was more than worthy.
It’s the perfect way to end the season for a guy who took what felt like an unfair amount of criticism. You have issues with the passing game? Okay, fine, but this was a team that didn’t have to throw the ball 40 times because they had the league’s best running back and the league’s best defense. It never meant that Jalen was some lesser quarterback, he was simply playing within the framework that made for a successful, now championship-winning team.
And what’s more, he answered the call with his arm multiple times, at key moments. After the Panthers game, when the sky was falling despite the continuation of a nine-game winning streak, Hurts carved up the Steelers to the tune of 290 yards and two scores. In the NFC Championship Game – 246 yards, a touchdown, and no turnovers. Then you cap it off with a mostly clean Super Bowl, hit a couple of deep bombs for Jahan Dotson and DeVonta Smith, and you are the most valuable player in the league’s biggest game.
Good for him. He deserves all of it and more.
