Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers originally requested a trade prior to the start of the 2025 season and since tensions have seemingly grown with the Raiders reluctant to extend Meyers. A year after posting 87 receptions, 1027 yards, and four touchdowns along with leading the NFL in contested catches Meyers has only posted 29 receptions, 329 yards, and 0 TD. Meyers ranks inside the top 20 for the NFL in both receptions and yards, while also ranking 15th in separation among all NFL wide receivers and tight ends. A report from Dianna Russini stated the Raiders are receiving calls on Meyers and open to moving him. This comes just days after another report indicated the Raiders are receiving calls on Meyers and could look to move him. The Raiders trading Meyers will only make sense if the team doesn’t plan to extend Meyers following this season. As of now, the projected compensatory selection the Raiders would receive, in 2027, for the loss of Meyers is a 4th round pick as he’s projected a 3 year, 55 million extension this coming winter.
Note: While likely the Raiders move Meyers for a flat pick, the goal I wanted was to try and find potential player for player trades that the Raiders could explore. It’s likely if the Raiders move Meyers I’d imagine the compensation is a 2026 4th and 2027 5th for Meyers and a 2027 6th.
Raiders receive: ILB Marte Mapu, 2026 6th round pick
Patriots receive: WR Jakobi Meyers
Map logged 204 snaps his rookie season with the Patriots before 487 in 2024, with the Patriots hiring of Mike Vrabel Mapu has seen his snaps fall to 39 in 5 games as free agent additions Jack Gibbens, Christian Elliss, and Robert Spillane take majority of the teams snaps. The former Sacramento State product has made a successful transition to ILB where the soon to be 26 year old has logged 67 tackles, 3 INT, 8 PBU, and 4 FF in his first three seasons. Additionally, Mapu has allowed just 364 yards, a TD, and a 74.7 QBR off 32 receptions on 45 targets. Mapu has an imposing frame at 6’3, 230 with elite athletic traits. He plays the run well and is a solidified coverage LB. The Raiders could look to explore additions at ILB where they lack young talent. As for the Patriots, Jakobi Meyers obviously has a connection having spent his first four seasons with the Patriots and Josh McDaniels before falling McDaniels to the Raiders. The Patriots have quality receivers with Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte both posting over 300 yards, however they could explore another addition to upgrade off Mack Hollins and Pop Douglas.
