Reports that Las Vegas Raiders No. 1 wide receiver Jakobi Meyers requested a trade surfaced nine days ago. Now, four days before the team begins the 2025 regular season at the New England Patriots and Meyers remains with the team.
Wednesday, he addressed his situation for the first time. Meyers did confirm he asked to be traded and the Raiders declined the request. Meyers asked to be traded because he wants a contract extension. He is entering the final season of his contract.
Meyers said he is unsure if he will get a contract extension.
“I don’t even know,” he told reporters at the team’s Henderson, Nevada facility Wednesday. “We are gonna find out together.”
Meyers is entering the final of a three-year contract with the Raiders and is making less than $11 million, which is below market. Meyers became the Raiders’ No. 1 wide receiver last October after the Raiders traded Davante Adams to the New York Jets.
“I’ll keep doing my job until something shakes out either way,” Meyers said.
Meyers responded well to the challenge. Meyers had a career year in 2024 as he had 87 catches for 1,027 yards. He also didn’t have any drops last season. He said Wednesday he feels like his performance last season warranted a pay increase.
Meyer’s words Wednesday show that he is unsatisfied and he still wants a new contract or to be dealt. Yet, it seems like he is still a functioning part of the roster and for now, that’s the bottom line.
