Since the Baltimore Ravens traded Jaire Alexander to the Philadelphia Eagles, there’s been debate about whether or not he’ll suit up against his former team, the Green Bay Packers, on Monday Night Football. Today, the Eagles finally made the call, officially ruling Alexander out against Green Bay.
Officially, the decision to hold Alexander out has been listed as a knee injury/coach’s decision. Alexander was traded on November 1st, which gave him just a little over a week to get ready for this head-to-head. Last week, the Eagles were on their bye, so this was his first opportunity to wear an Eagles jersey.
Interestingly, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo noted that Alexander will not even travel with the team to Green Bay. Maybe he’s staying in Philadelphia to rehab his knee injury, but the Ravens had been healthy scratching Alexander at the end of his time there, not giving him a status on the injury report before ruling him inactive for games.
Either way, you’d think Alexander would want to be on the field for this one. At minimum, he has $2 million tied in playing time incentives that would pay him $500,000 for crossing each of the following playing time thresholds on defense: 35%, 40%, 45% and 50%. This year, he had played just 61 defensive snaps over two games for the Ravens, so he still has a way to go to catch up to those numbers.
