Alexander missed Monday’s practice but is expected to return on Tuesday.
For those of you who were wondering why the Green Bay Packers couldn’t see eye-to-eye on a deal that would work out for both them and their former cornerback Jaire Alexander, it appears that his knee injury has not fully healed. While Alexander’s father accused the Packers of misdiagnosing the cornerback’s 2024 knee injury, the situation doesn’t appear to have resolved since he left Green Bay.
On Monday, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told the press that Alexander would end up missing the Ravens’ first padded practice of minicamp because the cornerback was going to have his knee drained. The expectation, per Harbaugh, is that Alexander will return to the field on Tuesday.
It’s hard not to have war flashbacks about knee drainage after what Packers fans went through with David Bakhtiari for years. That December 27th date we all had circled, the game where the Ravens will visit Green Bay, might not end up being a “revenge game” if Alexander is already dealing with drains in July.
The way Alexander’s contract reads is that he received a $2 million signing bonus and a $2 million salary, the salary which will be fully guaranteed if he’s still on the roster in Week 1 because of his status as a vested veteran in the NFL. From there, he has $500,000 bonuses that will trigger when he passes the following benchmarks for snap percentage played defensively: 35 percent, 40 percent, 45 percent and 50 percent.
Baltimore hedged their bets, and they were probably smart to.
