Both are looking to receive updated contract terms from Green Bay
The Green Bay Packers’ first set of organized team activities (OTAs) that were open to the media in 2025 started on Wednesday. Going into the day, the big question was whether cornerback Jaire Alexander, who has recently received a contract restructure offer from the Packers, or center Elgton Jenkins, who apparently wants to receive a contract extension despite still having two years remaining on his current deal, would show up.
According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Alexander and Jenkins were among the players who were not seen at practice on Wednesday. The other players who skipped out on practice today were undrafted rookie cornerback Tyron Herring, seventh-round offensive lineman John Williams and kicker Brandon McManus. All three of those players have inked new deals with the team this offseason, so it’s doubtful that their lack of participation has anything to do with their contract situations.
With Jenkins, who is moving from left guard to center this year, out, Sean Rhyan and Jacob Monk rotated between center and right guard on Wednesday. 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan focused on left tackle with the second-string offensive line, according to Packer Report’s Andy Herman.
Sans Alexander, the “starting” outside cornerbacks in today’s practice were Keisean Nixon and Nate Hobbs. If Alexander and the Packers don’t see eye-to-eye on a restructured deal, Nixon, Hobbs and Carrington Valentine will likely make up the team’s three cornerbacks in their nickel defense this season.
The Packers will have one more OTA practice open to the media next week before mandatory minicamp kicks off on June 10th. It has already been reported that Alexander will be attending minicamp if he’s still on the roster by that date.
Players who were sidelined with injury, participated with the rehab group or wore a red non-contact jersey in practice today include running back MarShawn Lloyd, wide receiver Christian Watson, wide receiver Savion Williams, wide receiver Jadon Janke, tight end John FitzPatrick, defensive end Collin Oliver, defensive end Jeremiah Martin, defensive tackle Kenny Clark, defensive tackle Warren Brinson, defensive tackle Nesta Jade Silvera and linebacker Quay Walker.
