The Jaguars will face off against the top team in the AFC on Sunday when they take on the top AFC team, the Broncos, in Denver. Jacksonville’s sitting at the top of the AFC South heading into Sunday’s games … but depending on the outcomes, we could see some shakeups in the AFC playoff picture in Week 16. And that could include the Jags clinching the AFC South.
The Broncos are also in position to clinch the AFC West with a win over the Jags, and a Chargers loss to the Cowboys, who were eliminated from NFC playoff contention with the Eagles’ win over the Commanders on Saturday. Jacksonville could be one of the obstacles standing in the Broncos’ path to the No. 1 seed in the AFC, which would require the Broncos to beat the Jaguars today, the aforementioned Chargers loss, plus a Patriots loss to the Ravens (which seems possible at least) and a Bills loss to the Browns (yikes).
For the Jaguars to clinch the AFC South, they’ve also got two potential paths to that destination on Sunday: A Texans loss to the Raiders (which would snap an 8-game losing streak for Las Vegas and I wouldn’t hold my breath) OR a Colts loss to the 49ers on Monday Night Football will solidify the Jags as the division winner.
