Walker will now be under contract with the Jaguars through 2026.
In a widely anticipated move, the Jacksonville Jaguars will pick up the fifth-year option for defensive end Travon Walker, the team has announced.
The Jaguars selected Walker in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, using the first pick on the Edge from the University of Georgia. With his option now picked up, he will now be under contract through at least the 2026 season. With this option in effect, he is projected to earn $14.75 million in the 2026 season, per Spotrac. Those numbers are fully guaranteed.
In his rookie 2022 season, Walker secured just 3.5 sacks, as a developing edge prospect in the pass rush area. However, since that time he has exploded with two straight 10-plus sack seasons, in 2023 and 2024.
In 2024, Walker became the first player in franchise history to record at least 10.0 sacks in back-to-back seasons within their first three years in the NFL. Additionally, Travon has the most sacks in franchise history within a player’s first three years in the league (24.0), passing Josh Hines-Allen (20.5).
Head coach Liam Coen previously confirmed .)that the team and Walkers’ camp had been in communication this offseason to discuss a possible extension.
“We’re having open conversations, and at the end of the day, we’ll continue to have those. James and Tony and I will have those conversations as we go, for sure.”
As the team and Walker continue to negotiate a potential contract extension, the team will theoretically have him under team control for the next five years, with the ability to use franchise tags.
