Travis Hunter was not the first overall draft pick, but his expectations for when he hits the field are certainly higher than those of Cam Ward, who was taken in that spot.
His first taste of action will come during the preseason.
Hunter played defense and offense with the Colorado Buffaloes, leading to his winning the Heisman Trophy and getting drafted No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Now, it will be up to the young two-way player to play at a high level on both sides of the ball moving forward.
Even more exciting is that the Jaguars have announced that Hunter will make his debut in Week 1 of the preseason and will play both defense and offense.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen told reporters Thursday that Hunter will play cornerback and wide receiver snaps in Jacksonville’s preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Travis Hunter was listed as a starting wide receiver on Jacksonville’s first unofficial depth chart.
On defense, Hunter is listed as a second-string cornerback behind Tyson Campbell and Jourdan Lewis.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen says he plans to play all his starters in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Steelers.
They certainly need the reps.
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ last winning season was in 2022, when they finished 9-8 and made the playoffs. The team last won the AFC South back in 2017.
Selecting a two-way player like Travis Hunter could lead to huge things for the franchise.
Now, Trevor Lawrence has a dynamic offensive weapon who can also give him the ball right back on defense.
