What makes Joe Brady an attractive candidate?

For the third time in five years, the Jacksonville Jaguars are searching for a new head coach.

Big Cat Country’s Jaguars head coach hiring process tracker is constantly being updated — but to provide more information on the top candidates being interviewed, we’ll be releasing in-depth profiles throughout the search.

Next up: Joe Brady - who has received a host of interview requests, including the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.

Experience

A Florida native, Joe Brady played wide receiver at William & Mary from 2009 to 2012 - but only registered three catches for the Tribe during his four years there. With a pro career clearly not something in the offing, Brady instead turned his attention to coaching, with his first opportunity coming under Sean Payton as an offensive assistant with the Saints. He only spent two seasons in New Orleans, before Ed Orgeron lured him to LSU to become passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.

It was in Baton Rouge where Brady really made his mark. Working with a riches of talent, he helped lead the Tigers to a National Championship in his one season there, developing stars such as Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson. The LSU offense were number one in the country in points per game (48.4) and yards per game (568.4), taking down an incredible seven top-ten teams en route to winning it all. Brady’s star was shining so brightly he was attracting interest from NFL franchises looking for the next big offensive coordinator - and despite signing a 3-year extension to stay in the Bayou, left for the Carolina Panthers just days later.

Under Matt Rhule, the Panthers struggled. And so did Brady’s offense, scoring more than 30 points just once in both the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He was fired by Carolina as a result, and in the first moment of adversity in Brady’s young career, he had to take a step back - joining the Buffalo Bills as the quarterbacks coach. He was credited with his work with Josh Allen following the departure of Brian Daboll, and was elevated to offensive coordinator midway through the 2023 season. Since then, Brady has managed to maintain the Bill’s status as one of the most deadly offenses in the NFL, despite the loss of star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
