The Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t made the playoffs in either of the past two seasons. Trevor Lawrence hasn’t won a playoff game since 2022, yet he’s still one of the NFL’s highest-paid players. In fact, Lawrence is in a three-way tie for being the second-highest-paid quarterback in the league today, earning an average annual salary of $55 million.

Jacksonville signed Lawrence to his five-year, $275 million contract extension last June. Then he led them to a 2-8 record, leading to head coach Doug Pederson getting fired and replaced by Liam Coen.

Now, Lawrence heads into his fifth NFL season having made one Pro Bowl appearance and leading his team to the playoffs just once. Some, like Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport, believe Lawrence’s accomplishments and contract make him the NFL’s most overpaid quarterback today.

As a former No. 1 overall pick who’s still just 25 years old, Lawrence has all the necessary tools to change the narrative around his career. No, the rich contract doesn’t help detract attention away from the former Clemson superstar, but the Jaguars are finally starting to get the right pieces around their starting quarterback to help him thrive.

With Travis Hunter, Brian Thomas Jr, and a new head coach calling the shots, Lawrence’s arrow is pointed straight up. Now, he just needs to take advantage of a promising group of talent, including himself.
