Jacksonville Jaguars Re-Evaluate Travis Hunter’s Two-Way Status Post-Injury

Leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, even if we didn’t know where he would land, there were no questions about Travis Hunter’s status as a top prospect. The Jacksonville Jaguars saw Hunter’s unique potential as an uber-rare two-way player, capable of being a team’s top receiver and No. 1 cornerback all in the same game.

Thus, Jacksonville traded two first-round picks for the right to make Hunter the No. 2 overall pick. His rookie season may have ended after just seven games due to suffering an LCL injury, Hunter flashed his potential on both sides of the ball.

Yet, suffering a season-ending injury has also caused some to wonder if the Jaguars would be better off asking Hunter to only focus his attention on offense or defense. However, the Jaguars don’t share that sentiment.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Jaguars don’t have any plans to change Hunter’s role going forward, meaning he’ll continue to be a priority target on offense and a big part of their starting secondary.

Hunter was coming off his best game as a receiver, recording eight receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. It was his first game over the century mark as a pro. He still hasn’t recorded an interception, but he’s only been targeted 15 times as teams appear to be afraid of throwing in his direction. He’s otherwise recorded three pass deflections, a fumble recovery, and 15 tackles.

Ultimately, despite a small sample size, Hunter has at times looked like a No. 1 receiver and a No. 1 cornerback. Has he been a superstar? No, but he’s also just 22 years old, and he’s more than held his own.
