The New York Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010, giving them the longest postseason drought in American professional sports. To be clear, not just the NFL, but all four major U.S. sports leagues: NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL.
Needless to say, this is a franchise that rarely gets things right. You don’t have to look beyond last season for proof as the Aaron Rodgers experiment came to an imploding end, resulting in the firing of Rodgers, head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
While it may be early days, it appears Gang Green has finally gotten one thing, right, though, as the hiring of former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn — who was drafted by the Jets in the 1990s — is “resonating” with other organizations.
“Several head coaching hires were lauded in league circle — most notably Ben Johnson to the Bears and Mike Vrabel to the Patriots — but the selection of Glenn in New York resonates, too. And Fields is considered by some as an ideal match for Glenn’s efforts to instill toughness in Florham Park,” wrote ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
“A defensive head coach is going to run the ball with Breece Hall and a dangerous weapon to complement the offense in Fields.AG will help the defense be even better, too,” an unnamed NFL coordinator told him.
The New York Jets win total for the 2025 season is currently set at 5.5, which means Las Vegas doesn’t expect the team to be all that better than last year, when they went 5-12. Early buzz from NFL circles out of minicamp, however, seems to be circling the Jets as a team worth betting the over on their win total.
Glenn will take charge in his first game as an NFL head coach against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers when the Jets host them at MetLife for Week 1 on Sunday, September 7. Whatever the first-year head coach is doing at the Jets’ training facility in Florham Park is clearly already working, as multiple NFL writers have since commented on the improved culture of the team compared to last year.
