While respecting the fact that it is all in preseason, the Cleveland Browns may have gone from no quarterbacks to too many quarterbacks and only a few receiving options to too many. QBs Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel both looked good in their debuts, again in preseason, while Jamari Thrash seems to have joined Jerry Jeudy, David Njoku and Cedric Tillman as reliable weapons.
Getting RB Quinshon Judkins back on the roster soon should also help, while there is all of a sudden hope of more explosive ability with WR Isaiah Bond, who is expected to sign.
Bond reportedly flew in to Berea for a visit with the team on Saturday, while they were away for Week 2 versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Sunday morning, a report came out that Bond is expected to sign a three-year deal with the team:
Despite only a little over a week to get up to speed, it is likely that Bond will make Cleveland’s initial 53-man roster. Given his speed and NFL draft projection (noted by Cabot above), any team could claim Bond if the Browns waive him. The three-year contract likely doesn’t change that.
The details of that contract, including guaranteed money, will be important. If Bond completes the entire three-year deal, Cleveland will have the option to make him a restricted free agent, while the receiver will have a chance to cash in a year or two sooner than any draft pick (first-round picks have four or five-year deals, all other drafted players are for four).
The Browns will likely make the addition of Bond, and potentially Judkins, official over the next day or two.
