After spending time with Brian Daboll and the New York Giants, Rogers tries to make it with the Bills

The Buffalo Bills have tried to add depth along the defensive line, and while much of the attention has gone to the pass-rushers on the edge, the team has not ignored their needs at defensive tackle, either. Buffalo drafted two defensive tackles this spring, and they signed a veteran, as well, in hopes that they can bolster the entire defensive front.

The Bills also claimed a player off waivers from a team full of familiar faces. This player is an intriguing athlete, and he’s also the subject of today’s edition of “90 players in 90 days.”

Name: Casey Rogers
Number: 71
Position: DT
Height/Weight: 6’5”, 305 pounds
Age: 26 (27 on 12/18/2025)
Experience/Draft: 1; signed with the New York Giants following the 2024 NFL Draft
College: Oregon
Acquired: Claimed off waivers on 5/9/2025

Financial situation (per Spotrac): The Bills assumed the one-year, $960,000 contract Rogers signed with the Giants when they claimed him off waivers in May. If he makes the 53-man roster, that number is what Rogers’ cap hit will be. Buffalo will not be responsible for a dead-cap charge if Rogers is released.

2024 Recap: Rogers signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft. In the preseason, he appeared in three games and totaled seven tackles, two of which went for a loss, and a quarterback hurry. The Giants waived him on August 27, but he remained with the team as a member of the practice squad.

He was signed to the active roster on December 7, and he appeared in two games. He played 21 defensive snaps in New York’s 14-11 loss to the New Orleans Saints, and then played 12 defensive snaps in their 35-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He did not register a statistic in those games. The Giants waived Rogers on Christmas Eve before re-signing him to the practice squad, and they signed him to a reserve/future contract at the end of the regular season.

Positional outlook: Rogers is one of nine interior defensive linemen on the current roster. Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones, DeWayne Carter, Zion Logue, T.J. Sanders, Deone Walker, Larry Ogunjobi, and Marcus Harris are the others.

2025 Offseason: Rogers is healthy and participating in offseason work.

2025 Season outlook: Rogers has little realistic chance at sticking with the club, but there is an outside shot that he makes his way onto the roster thanks to suspensions and injuries. With Ogunjobi out for the first six games thanks to a positive PED test and Walker working back from a back injury, it’s at least possible that Rogers either plays well enough to secure a spot on the 53-man roster or there are enough injuries ahead of him where it becomes necessary for him to be on the team.

That chance, however, is remote, as I think Rogers is really fighting for a spot on the...
