Is Micah Parsons Faking an Injury at Cowboys Training Camp?

After a long offseason, the Dallas Cowboys finally kicked off training camp with their first practice on Tuesday. Surprisingly, even though he’s headed into the final year of his rookie contract, Micah Parsons was in attendance. Many other stars seeking a new deal wouldn’t be, see Trey Hendrickson.

While Parsons is in Oxnard, California, with the rest of his team, he’s not doing much on the practice field. According to Parsons, his limited activity is due to back tightness.

“It’s something that I feel is going to hold me back, so I just need to rehab,” Parsons said. “Whenever my body feels at its best, [I will practice]. Yeah, whenever my body’s fully operating the way we need it to and things like that.”

However, Trevon Diggs was right next to Parsons when he was making these comments, and the Cowboys’ corner cited squats as the reason for the pass-rusher’s soreness. Parsons chimed in with “Heavy squats” while having a smile on his face.

So, with Parsons currently trying to angle for a new contract, is it possible he’s faking an injury? After all, it would keep him out of harm’s way, and it forces the Cowboys to get a look at their defense without their standout pass-rusher.

If the coaching staff doesn’t like what they see from the rest of the defense, it’s not hard to imagine Parsons’ value spiking to the point ownership is ready to hand him a blank check.
