Hunter Henry was banged up after suffering a knee injury during last Sunday’s home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, telling reporters the next day he was “sore” but would “be alright.”
So, what’s his status for this Sunday’s home game against the Carolina Panthers?
Henry, who caught eight balls for 90 yards and two touchdowns last week, was on the field for the media-access portion of Wednesday’s Patriots practice, per reporters who attended. Guard Jared Wilson and edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson were the only players absent at the start of practice, according to MassLive’s Mark Daniels.
Henry currently leads New England in targets (22), catches (13), yards (16) and touchdowns (two). The veteran tight end has emerged as quarterback Drake Maye’s most trusted target, especially in the red zone.
If Henry can’t play against the Panthers, veteran Austin Hooper likely would see an uptick in snaps, as would tight end/fullback Jack Westover. The Patriots also reportedly added tight end Gee Scott to their practice squad this week.
In other injury news, all signs point toward cornerback Christian Gonzalez making his long-awaited return this week.
