We have been talking about Chig Okonkwo’s upside since the Tennessee Titans selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has shown some flashes of that upside, but has not put together a complete season as an actual weapon to this point. Now, he enters the last year of his rookie contract. Will this be the year that he finally puts it together?
Justin Boone thinks it will be. He highlighted Chig as one of his sleepers at the tight end position in fantasy football. Boone notes that Chig had a strong finish to the 2024 season. This is true. He had 10, 11, and 7 catches, respectively, in weeks 14 through 16. That’s an extremely small sample size, but it was good to see him finally get involved in the offense.
Boone also notes that Okonkwo has a chance to be the number two option in the passing game behind Calvin Ridley. The bulk of the season last year tells us that probably isn’t the case, but maybe he and Brian Callahan figured something out at the end of the season that will carry over to this year.
I am late digging into all of the fantasy football stuff for the upcoming season, but I would not feel comfortable heading into the season with Chig as my TE1 in fantasy outside of a really deep league. What about you?
