Social media sleuths uncovered a fascinating coincidence about how the history of the Pope may have already determined the winner of Super Bowl 60.
With the Kansas City Chiefs out of the playoffs, there is no consensus favorite to win Super Bowl 60. This is arguably the NFL’s most wide-open field since they expanded to 14 playoff teams in 2020.
However, if history is any indicator, the 2025 Super Bowl champion is likely to reside in the Pacific Northwest. If you don’t believe us, you have to research the history of the Pope in the 21st century.
Several internet sleuths pointed out a compelling coincidence between the last three popes and the Seattle Seahawks. After Pope Benedict XVI succeeded John Paul in 2005? The Seahawks won 13 regular-season games and reached Super Bowl 40. They lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-20.
Eight years later, in 2013, Pope Benedict XVI resigned and was succeeded by Pope Francis. The Seahawks went 13-3 and defeated the Denver Broncos to win Super Bowl 48.
2005: a new Pope is elected, the Seahawks win 13 games and advance to the Super Bowl
2013: a new Pope is elected, the Seahawks win 13 games and advance to the Super Bowl (and win)
2025: a new Pope is elected, the Seahawks win 13 games, and…? 👀

Pope Leo XIV succeeded Pope Francis after his death on Apr. 21 of this year. The Seahawks enter Week 18 with a 13-3 record. Thus, history means they’re destined to reach Super Bowl 60….right?
Get that, Seahawks fans? No need to fear if your team loses to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday. 13 wins, coinciding with the year of a new pope, have brought good luck to this franchise.
Call it a coincidence if you want… 👀
But in 2005 and 2013, a new Pope was elected, and the Seahawks won 13 games and reached the Super Bowl 📈
In 2013, they finished the job 🏆
Now in 2025, the signs are lining up once again 🔥

On second thought, maybe Seahawks fans want to hold their horses. If you believe in luck and destiny, the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers also have something to say about Super Bowl 60.
The Broncos started this season 10-2. In each of the previous four instances, they won 10 of their first 12 games. The Broncos went on to reach the Super Bowl.
But don’t discount the Packers either, folks. Micah Parsons may be done for the season, but history suggests that the Packers may be the lucky winners of Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium:
Packers got Reggie White
Brett Favre won the SB at 27...
