NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reveals the Pittsburgh Steelers have inquired about a former top 5 pick Kyle Pitts.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are continuing to look for another playmaker after trading wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys last month. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reveals that could come in the form of Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.

“They’ve inquired about some other weapons, and I know we’re talking about receivers, talking about pass catchers,” Rapoport said on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” “They’ve had their eyes on some tight ends, too. Jonnu Smith, there was a phone call there. Kyle Pitts, there was a phone call there. The Steelers are in the market, it seems, for at least one more playmaker.”

Pitts was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he hasn’t reached expectations since a promising rookie year.

In 2021, he recorded a career-high 68 catches for 1,026 yards. However, he has just 155 receptions for 1,625 yards in the past three seasons.

Still, the Falcons decided to pick up Pitts’ fifth-year option, which is worth about $10.8 million.

The Steelers have more than enough salary cap space if they wanted to trade for Pitts, but it remains to be seen if Atlanta is even interested in moving on.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported last week that multiple teams have reached out to the Falcons about the availability of Pitts but that nothing is imminent and Atlanta would prefer to keep him. Schultz added it would also take at least a Day 2 pick to even spark serious talks.

That would likely rule out Pittsburgh, which has been intentionally stockpiling picks this offseason to go get its quarterback in next year’s draft. But there’s no arguing the team is trying to win now as well after agreeing to terms with 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Thursday.

The Steelers also placed tight end Donald Parham Jr. on the injured reserve list after he suffered a torn Achilles in practice this week, ending his 2025 season. So while wide receivers have been heavily linked to Pittsburgh, it seems adding a tight end is very much in play, too.
