The New England Patriots will likely be active ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4.
New England is atop the AFC East and should look to bolster its roster. The Patriots have a couple of positions of need, but insider Chad Graff of The Athletic recently revealed New England’s priority is to add an edge rusher.
“The moves also give the Patriots more ammo ahead of the trade deadline,” Graff wrote in a piece published on Friday. “They now have 10 draft picks (11 if White is active in seven or more games the rest of the season), and all are in the first six rounds.
“So now that the selling phase is done, look for the Pats to try to acquire a player or two. The priority is at edge rusher, where the Pats lack depth behind starters Harold Landry and K’Lavon Chaisson. At this point, it would be a surprise if the Patriots don’t trade for an edge rusher. After that, look for them to consider depth at defensive back and, perhaps, running back or wide receiver.”
The Patriots traded defensive end Keion White and safety Kyle Dugger away for late-round picks, which New England can use as trade chips.
Although the priority is to add an edge rusher, the Patriots still could look to add offensive help, whether that’s at running back or receiver.
New England will host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in Week 9 NFL action.
