Insider Names Three Players to Watch For Steelers at Trade Deadline

The Pittsburgh Steelers could finally land the No. 2 wide receiver they’ve been searching for.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are believed to be buyers at the NFL trade deadline with still a clear need at wide receiver, and one insider believes they may finally land the playmaker they’ve been searching for.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport thinks there are three players to watch who could be on the Steelers radar ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline: Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

Meyers, 28, seems to make the most sense out of the group. He has served as the Raiders No. 1 wide receiver for much of the past three years while recording 191 catches for 2,186 yards and 12 touchdowns.

However, his production has taken a dip this season and Las Vegas could be nearing a rebuild after starting the season 2-6.

There have been reports that the Raiders are seeking at least a day two pick in exchange for the veteran wide receiver, but price tags always seem to drop the closer the league gets to the deadline.

Shaheed, 27, is in a similar situation. The Saints sit in last place in the NFC with a 1-8 record and Shaheed is in the final year of his deal.

The former undrafted rookie in 2022 could also prove to be what Pittsburgh’s offense is missing. He is one of the fastest offensive players in the league, having hit 21.72 miles per hour on a Week 5 touchdown this season. That’s the sixth-fastest mark for a ballcarrier this season, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

Shaheed has proven his ability to take the top off the defense while registering 138 catches for 2,055 yards and 12 touchdowns through the first four years of his NFL career.

Waddle, 26, is the least likely player to be moved in the group. The Dolphins set a sky high price of a first-round pick plus an additional asset in exchange for Waddle, and rightfully so.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has racked up 250 receptions for 4,715 yards and 24 touchdowns since entering the league. He also seems to be in line to be Miami’s No. 1 wide receiver of the future after Tyreek Hill suffered a serious injury in Week 4.

That will almost certainly be too high of an asking price for general manger Omar Khan, who is seeking wide receiver help, but has also been reluctant to part with significant pieces of his 2026 NFL Draft stock, as the Steelers are expected to trade up for a quarterback next spring.
