As of right now, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN believes the Pittsburgh Steelers are the front runners to land Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver Jakobi Meyers in a trade.
“Several teams are believed to be in the receiver market, most notably the Steelers and possibly the Broncos and Bills. Meyers clearly wants out, and the Raiders are in a transitional phase. They just signed veteran Tyler Lockett, which could ease the loss of dealing Meyers,” Fowler wrote. “Pittsburgh is keeping tabs on this one but is prepared to be patient, too. If I had to predict a destination right now, I’d say the Steelers.“
Meyers could be dealt, but Las Vegas is looking for significant draft capital.
“Las Vegas has received interest in the seven-year veteran, and my sense is the Raiders want a strong pick for Meyers. A swap of Day 3 picks won’t do at this stage,” Fowler wrote
Fowler tabbed the Steelers as one of “the most interesting teams” at the deadline and mentioned New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed as another potential option.
Shaheed has 30 receptions for 356 yards and two touchdowns in seven games this season.
“Will they settle for a moderate move such as last year’s acquisition of Mike Williams? Or will they locate more of a difference-maker and pay the necessary draft capital to secure the talent?” Fowler pondered. “If a deal for Meyers falls through, perhaps the Steelers lean on the Saints for, say, Rashid Shaheed, a speed option who would be costly but not outrageously so.”
With how bad the defense has played through seven games, Dan Graziano of ESPN questions if a No. 2 wide receiver is the biggest need for Pittsburgh at the trade deadline.
“I am hearing a lot of the same chatter about the Steelers and wide receivers, but I’m not sure I get it. Is the offense the Steelers’ problem? They should be looking for help on defense beyond Dugger, because that’s the side of the ball that looks old, slow and threatens to doom their season,” Graziano wrote.
Meyers recently shared that he still hopes to be dealt with the NFL trade deadline quickly approaching. Meyers requested a trade in August.
“Oh, for sure,” Meyers said via Ryan McFadden of ESPN. “But I’m a professional at the end of the day. I’m just trying to play good football.”
The Steelers showed interest in Meyers after he requested a trade this offseason, but the Raiders refused to trade him, as the team revamped its offense under Carroll by bringing in quarterback Geno Smith and drafting running back Ashton Jeanty.
Meyers had a career-best season in 2024, recording 87 catches for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. In six games this season, he has hauled in 29 passes for 329 yards.
That type of production would be a fitting pairing with wide receiver DK Metcalf in the Steelers’ offense.
Meyers doesn’t have a specific destination he’s looking to be traded to, either.
“It’s a job,” Meyers...
